One thing that I am pretty confident about, is that Deontay Wilder vs Luis Ortiz will NOT go the 
distance. Both boxers are powerful enough yet flawed enough defensively, that I expect both of them to get hurt or knocked down at some point before the final bell rings.
Wilder and Ortiz are both undefeated but someone’s “O” has got to go! And for that reason, I expect to see the best from both boxers.
What to expect…
According to the Boxing Fight Predictor, Wilder has advantages in terms of: hand speed, ring generalship and footwork. Although he’s still rough around the edges in some areas, Wilder does a good job of boxing and punching as well as using his height and reach to protect his sometimes shaky chin.
Like many of his Cuban countrymen before him, Ortiz has a very decorated amateur background. That combined with his seemingly sturdier chin, not-too-shabby punching power (80% KO percentage), and confidence make him a very live underdog if you cared to bet on this boxing match.
However, I believe that Wilder has too many weapons in his tool box for Ortiz to overcome. The biggest weapon at Wilder’s disposal is his height. Standing at a whopping 6’7″ to Ortiz’s 6’4″, I expect to see Wilder doing his fair share of clinching and jabbing, before he lowers the boom.
How will it end?
As I stated earlier, I do not expect this fight to go 12 rounds. But picking Wilder to win isn’t going out on a limb, so I’ll predict the type of knockout as well as the exact round.
The early rounds will be tense as each fighter will respect the other’s power. But it will not take them long to start mixing it up. Wilder’s jab to the head but also to the body will be key.
While Wilder is throwing his educated jab, Ortiz will be focusing on bodywork and the occasional power shot to get Wilder’s attention. I also wouldn’t be shocked if he stuns Wilder at some point before round six.
The finale
After round six, Wilder will begin to close the distance and will start to run Ortiz into his power right hands a bit more frequently. After setting him up with the jab, with some body punches mixed in, he will lower the bum on Ortiz in round eight.
Luis Ortiz will not beat the 10-count in round eight, and we’ll be treated to another zany post-fight Deontay Wilder interview. Expect Wilder to call out lineal heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. Let’s hope that fight is next.
