The Reason Why I Started My Boxing Blog

June 20, 2010 By Ja Dawes

Happy Father’s day to all of my fans, followers, subscribers, and frequent visitors. You have all been influenced in some way by men who have played the role of dad, granddad or great granddad. And many of us are dads ourselves. As a result, I want to use this day to allow you to learn a bit more about me.

Sugar Ray Leonard W TKO 14 Thomas Hearns, Las Vegas, NV, 09.16.81. I remember this fight like it was yesterday, even though it took place nearly thirty years ago. My father and his friends were so excited in the weeks leading up to this fight. I wondered why. I lived in a sports world which supposedly centered around baseball and football. Little did I know or understand my dad’s love for boxing. And after watching the replay of the fight on ABC’s Wide World of Sports nearly a year later, I realized why. I’ve been a boxing fan ever since.

My dad recently passed away. But he left a lasting impact. My love of boxing and writing are two of the many imprints that he left on me. When you read my posts, always remember that I have a co-author — James Dawson, my dad.

Continue to cherish the sport. And continue to honor and love your fathers.

Do you keep tally of your predictions and results, so we can review the history? I’m not trying to put you on the spot here, just it would be nice to be able to review all your predictions and results, and keep a tally.

@Jeff Not putting me on the spot at all. In fact, you just gave me a great idea in terms of new functionality on my site. I’ll try my best to get a tracker added to my blog at some point before year-end. Sort of like a scoreboard across the top banner of the site. That stated, your best bet is to click on ‘Boxing Predictions’ in the top navigational area and just go through my predictions archives and manually tally them yourself. Until I launch the scoreboard tracker, that’s your best bet (sorry).

@Jeff For the record, in 2010, I have gone 13-2 in my predictions. I should be 14-1 but decided to go out on a limb and predict Paulie Malignaggi to defeat Amir Khan. The other \’loss\’ was my prediction of Israel Vazquez over Rafael Marquez in their fourth match.

this is a little sad, but you have predicted 80/102 fights correctly giving you just over 78% success rate. Of closer fights (+ or – 400 in odds) you have gone with the favourite and correctly predicted 39/49 giving you an 80% success rate and gone with the underdog and correctly predicted 7/15 right (47%). you have a 69% success rate with regards to the result of a fight. Most impressively, you have predicted the fight lasts at least into the 8th round 91.5% of the time.

Thank @Jack, I may need to keep you around to create a prediction tracker application for me. 🙂
