Straight Meets Wide When Tomasz Adamek Faces Chris Arreola

April 18, 2010 By Ja Dawes

I’ll keep it real. I like Tomasz Adamek (40-1, 27 KOs). I think he’s one of the more underrated fighters in the sport. He may not be the quickest or most graceful boxer out there, but he’s tough-as-nails, has extremely heavy hands, and most importantly, punches very straight.

Cristobal Arreola (28-1, 25 KOs) is very similar to Adamek in that he’s tougher than a box of sandpaper and carries light weights in his gloves (and I am not talking of the Margarito plaster-of-Paris variety). The major difference is that he punches much wider.

You probably thought my straight versus wide theme centered around their waistline? Well, that’s true but that’s besides the point. It’s a simple matter of geometry. The shortest distance between two points is a straight line. And you can not get much straighter than Adamek’s right hand.

In what promises to be the most exciting fight of HBO Championship Boxing’s very impressive April lineup, I do not expect this fight to go the distance. In a fight which may feature both fighters being hurt or knocked down, I expect Adamek’s shorter, straighter punches to make the difference when the fight hangs in the balance.

Tomasz Adamek will survive and stop Chris Arreola in a fight that should be very exciting while it lasts. The possible prize: a shot at one of the Klitschkos or perhaps even David Haye. Fasten your seat belts.

I agree that Adamek will win but if Arreola’s chin held out against Vitali, I don’t think Adamek will stop him.
He will work behind his good jab, get dragged into a fight as he likes to return fire when hit but ultimately take a decision

@Puncher: Didn’t little-known Travis Walker have Arreola in serious trouble? Everyone’s entitled to getting hurt, but I think Arreola can be hurt by Adamek, especially since I assume that he’ll be in less of a shell against him than he was against Klitschko (part of the reason why I think he lasted as long as he did against Vitali).

    Both wrong this weekend.

Froch & Fatboy will be victorious.

I don’t know. I thought Froch won. Maybe I’m blind. I was watching in Dutch.

The real middleweight champion is a guy North of Border named Lucien Bute.

I had Froch winning in a helluva fight. Bute is very, very good but hard for me to call him the best when he’s yet to best an elite super middleweight.
