Adrien Broner (24-0) And Paulie Malignaggi (32-4) Look To Cash In

June 9, 2013 By Ja Dawes

A wise man once said, "don't write a check, your [insert expletive] can't cash." The quote is basically advising that one should not talk about doing something if one can not back it up.

Neither Broner nor Malignaggi have been known to mince words, so this quote definitely applies to each man leading up to their grudge match on June 22.

Broner has gone on record to praise (somewhat) Malignaggi's boxing skills while also expressing that his foe is overmatched in this fight. Malignaggi claims that he's going to "ruin" Broner and this his handlers have mis-calculated his chances in this fight.

Which boxer's boasts are most likely to come to fruition?

When I first heard this fight was being signed, my immediate reaction was Broner by a landslide. And as the fight has come closer to taking place, I still feel he'll win but I believe the outcome may not be as one-sided as I initially thought (sort of).

For what he lacks in youth, (possibly) speed, and most definitely, power in this fight, Malignaggi still has pretty good legs and will be buoyed by fighting in front of his hometown fans in Brooklyn, New York.

Although I expect Malignaggi to fight with a little pep in his step with "BK" rooting him on, his fans can not fight the fight for him. In Broner, he will be facing the most physically-gifted and skilled boxer that he has ever faced. And that's saying a lot, since Malignaggi has fought the likes of Miguel Cotto and Amir Khan.

For the relatively untested Broner, this too, will be the best professional boxer that he has ever faced. But Malignaggi doesn't have enough, especially punching power, to deal with Adrien "The Problem" Broner in this one.

Look for The Problem to cash the proverbial check in this one (by stopping Malignaggi late) as well as the literal one (by setting up more lucrative fights down the road).
