Since I’m in a shameless, self-promotion kind of mood, I’ll keep with the boxing fight predictor theme in the Cotto-Foreman fight result post. If you look at the image to the right, you will see that the predictor indicates Ward as a Strong Favorite. I tend to agree, but not without some hesitation.
When Andre Ward (21-0, 13 KOs) meets Allan Green (29-1, 20 KOs) 11 days from now, he’ll be facing his stiffest test in my opinion. Some would argue that Mikkel Kessler was Ward’s most difficult foe. I would argue that Green’s height (he stands 6’2"), his one-punch knockout power, and his amateur pedigree are nothing like Ward has ever seen as a pro.
However, I believe that fighting in his hometown of Oakland, California as well as his recent success against top super middleweights (Mikkel Kessler and Edison Miranda) will be the factors that tip this fight in Ward’s favor.
Allan Green brings a lot to the table. However, what he will bring to the table against the best fighter that he has ever faced as a pro? The only other name on Green’s resume is Miranda, and it accounts for his only loss. It was later found out that Green was dealing with some undiagnosed medical issues at the time of the Miranda fight, but that loss is not a good omen.
Look for Andre Ward to stay undefeated in a fight that will be highly-technical, and perhaps even dull at times.
Andre Ward W UD12 Allan Green.
EmE says
I agree with the prediction, but don’t you think Ward is capable of stopping Green?
In his fight with Kessler,it looked like that at some point,Ward could stop the viking warrior.Kessler was dazed a couple of times and he’s got a pretty good chin…
Ja Dawson says
@EmE I don’t know — Green has never been stopped either. Miranda hurt him though. I just think Ward is more technical than brutal, and will probably not put on the pressure necessary to gain the stoppage. Additionally, he’ll probably be wary of Green’s power for the balance of the fight.
darren says
I see Ward capitalising on an opportunity to stop the over-hyped Green who has not beaten anyone of note..Cheers
Jeff says
A bigger question is why is Lucien Bute not in this tournament? Promoters I bet. You figure they would have corrected their mistake when that bum Jermaine Taylor limped out, and got him in this tournament. It should be Ward vs. Bute. Not Green.
Ja Dawson says
@darren Wow, another Ward stoppage victory prediction? Green may be slightly overrated but his physical tools are still considerable, despite his limited opposition. I just don’t see a Ward TKO — when was his last stoppage victory?
Ja Dawson says
@Jeff Well, as you know, Bute fights on HBO, Showtime’s rival. Unfortunately for us fight fans, Showtime has exclusive rights to the Super Six, and reeling Bute into the tournament is a problem. But you are right, we may as well call it a promotional issue, since the networks are sorta doubling as promoters in many cases, like these.
jabbo says
expect an Allen Green decision, he’s going to be able to keep Mr. Ward at bay all night long and win this fight.
Ja Dawson says
@jabbo I could see Allan Green decisioning Ward, but it will not happen tonight my dude.
Jeff says
@Jabbo
Lol, That was even worse than Ja’s prediction on Khan Malanaggi.
Ja Dawson says
@Jeff And what was your prediction my friend? I got one, Jeff will not make too many official predictions in the comments thread because he can’t take the heat if/when he’s wrong. ha, ha
Jeff says
“I’m never wrong, but not always right”
Ja Dawson says
@Jeff What you are is a boxing comedian Jeff! lol
jabbo says
Jeff I have to admit that I sort of expected this outcome but you have to mix it up sometimes when your boxing predictions are as accurate as mine usually are or else people will think I’m a freak of nature or something! lol!
jabbo says
I’ve had two wrong predictions in the past 10 years or so and in both cases they involved Andre Ward. purhaps they’s a lesson to be learned in that. hummm?@Jeff:
Ja Dawson says
@jabbo That’s what I was saying when I was on my 20-something win streak that stopped with a screaching halt at Khan vs Malignaggi! ha, ha
jabbo says
@Ja Dawson:
really enjoying the Andre Ward evolution, just keeps getting better’.
Ja Dawson says
@jabbo Yes indeed, Dre is doing his thang. Funny though, the sledding gets no smoother…next up: Andre Dirrell. This will be his third “toughest fight of his career” matchup in as many bouts. ha, ha
jabbo says
@Ja Dawson:well one things’ for sure ja and that’s that ward will dismantle dirrell or i’ll b looking at wrong prediction number 3 in what i’ve been made aware is my 12 year years of correctly predicting winners in fights. Though I must admit my two losses were in cases where i had never seen atleast one of the fighters fight before, fact is fact, however, in this case i have seen both fighters display their wares and i sincerly believe that ward has the better goods, should be a good fight though!
Ja Dawson says
@jabbo, I agree — I think that Ward HAS to be given the edge, just based on his consistency in the ring. It will be a very close fight though.
