Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (43-1-1, 31 KO's) versus Erislandy "The American Dream" Lara (19-1-2, 12 KO's) is too close to call, but that's why I write, to predict any big fight no matter how difficult!
I've thought about this fight for a couple of months.
Will we see the Alvarez who struggles with slick boxers like Austin Trout (narrow win) and Floyd Mayweather (decisive loss) have similar problems against the unorthodox southpaw Lara?
Or have the lessons learned against Trout and Mayweather been the perfect preparation for Canelo's battle against "The American Dream?"
On the Lara side, I've envisioned him pot-shotting his way to victory against the often "rigid" Alvarez the way he did in eking his way past Alfred Angulo.
But then again, I look at that same win, in which he appeared to be fading badly and on the way to being stopped, as an indicator of what Alvarez maybe able to do to him late in the fight.
After all of the mental sparring going on in my own head regarding this matchup, I will default to my prediciton failsafe.
When in doubt, go with the better boxer (not puncher).
And in this fight, that is Erislandy Lara, via a split decision victory.
