Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop: The Life And Times Of Bernard Hopkins

February 26, 2013 By Ja Dawes

With all due respect to IBF light heavyweight titlist Tavoris Cloud (24-0, 19 KO’s), his upcoming title defense is all about the venerable Bernard Hopkins (52-6-2, 32 KO’s). Cloud is by no means a pushover. In fact, he’s a young, undefeated, and powerful boxer who has overwhelmed all of his opponents to-date with his power and will, despite what he seemingly lacks in skill.

In the past, Cloud would be the kind of fighter that Hopkins would eat for lunch, breakfast and dinner. At the very ripe age of 48 years old, Hopkins may have bit off more than he can chew in Cloud. Forget the three major meals!

But that is the story. Does "the Executioner" have another trick up his sleeve?

Younger, powerful champions like Felix Trinidad and Kelly Pavlik, have been befuddled, bloodied and beaten up by a man (Hopkins) who has forgotten more in the ring than most boxers will ever know.

And I see Cloud being no different, except that Hopkins is much different than the man who defeated Trinidad and Pavlik several years ago. I just think he’s too damn old this time around.

Despite his advanced age, Hopkins is still the more skilled fighter. He’s a sure-fire, first-ballot Boxing Hall of Famer (whenever he decides to retire) and is a very live underdog in this fight if you ask me.

All that being said, this is Tavoris Cloud’s moment to rise above his own surname, like a rocket. And I believe he will win by simply out-hustling and out-working a man old enough to be his uncle.

The verdict: Tavoris Cloud will win by UD12 on March 9 in downtown Brooklyn, New York.

I think Hop has enough left to school the champ, but if he is any less than the second Dawson fight…
Hop might get stopped late rounds 6-8.
That’s fate, no matter how great.
When mommy nature creeps up on you it is time to know you gonna lose.
Bernard is skilled, conditioned, tough…but Cloud is young and rough.
This could all add to Hop taking a retirement trip unless the greatest promoter on the planet Don King gives him some marketable “statues” to fight.
Bring on Felix or Oscar just give granpop Bernie one for night.
    DK your the best !
