ESPN Friday Night Fights (FNF) is a weekly show that has been showcasing the best upcoming talent in boxing for the past 15 years.
Some of the biggest names in boxing got their first break on Friday Night Fights and the show is set to make its third trip in the last four months to Turning Stone Resort and Casino in New York on January 25, 2013.
FNF is not only giving boxers their first chance to fight in front of a national audience, the show is also making Turning Stone into one of the best places to see a boxing match on the east coast.
This edition of Friday Night Fights at Turning Stone will feature a 12-round main event bout between Brian Vera and Sergiy Dzinziruk. Vera is the current NABO middleweight champion and is 21-6 (12 KO’s). Dzinziruk is the former WBO junior middleweight champion and is entering the fight with a sterling 37-1-1 (24 KO’s) record.
While the won-loss (with his only loss being to middleweight kingpin Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez) record clearly favors Dzinziruk, Vera is a well-respected fighterr who has arguably faced better competition in his career. His list of opponents includes: Sergio Mora (twice); Andy Lee (twice), and James Kirkland.
This should be an excellent fight between two very competent contenders in the middleweight division, both hungry for a nationally-televised victory.
Turning Stone Resort and Casino is quietly building a solid boxing tradition over the past few years, and this tradition is only going to keep getting better with fights like Sergiy Dzinziruk vs. Brian Vera.
My official prediction: Dzinziruk wins by unanimous decision.
