Why Mosley Is More Than A Live Underdog Against Pacquiao

March 20, 2011 By Ja Dawes

I am going to get straight to the point and tell you four reasons why Shane Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KOs) just may spring the upset against Manny "Pac Man" Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 KOs) on May 7.

REASON #1

Chin. The reason is clear. Mosley has never been stopped in a professional boxing match. No man is beyond being knocked out in the ring. Pacquiao is surely capable of ending "Sugar’s" streak, but if he couldn’t knock out Antonio Margarito, I am not so sure he’s capable of doing it to Mosley.

REASON #2

Defense. Not only does Mosley have a world-class chin, his defense is also pretty sound. Sure, he’s more hittable at this late stage of his Hall of Fame career (18 years). But he’s also not a human punching bag like Margarito. Nor is he overly-defensive like the turtle personified by Joshua Clottey, whom the Pac Man defeated a couple of years ago.

REASON #3

Strength. There are not many welterweights, past or present, who can match the physical strength of Shane Mosley. He may only stand 5’9," but he makes up for it with his considerable upper-body strength. Unlike Ricky Hatton, who unsuccessfully tried to bully Pacquiao, Mosley is much better-equipped to play Pacquiao’s Debo.

REASON #4

Body. I am not talking about which fighter would most likely win a body-building contest. I am talking about Pacquiao’s potential Achilles Heel – which just so happens to be one of Mosley’s greatest strengths. You guessed it – body punching. Pacquiao’s only two KO losses were from body shots, and I saw him not respond too well to Margarito’s body attack. Shane probably saw it too.

I’m not necessarily putting my money on a Mosley upset, but the odds can’t be more difficult than gambling at an internet casino and winning, given the four reasons that I mention above.

Thanks for the comment “tom.” Good idea on the bet most likely. I have a very funny feeling about this fight, and it may look good for Shane. I’ll post my official prediction sometime next month. I’m looking forward to your comment(s).

Damn, I’m in Sugar’s corner! I saw what he did to Margarito live, and he’ll do the same to the Pac-Man!! We can do this!!

@Gabe I could see him (Mosley) winning, but I’ll let you know later on who I am officially picking. 🙂
