A “Royal” Warning To Floyd Mayweather, Jr. From A King

September 14, 2010 By Ja Dawes

The "King" that I am referring to is none other than the self-proclaimed world’s greatest promoter. No matter what you think about Don King, it’s hard to deny some of what he expressed about Mayweather’s recent foibles. King correctly refers to the fact that Floyd Mayweather may have no match in terms of class inside of the ring. However, outside of the ring, it’s a different story altogether.

His highly ignorant, partially incoherent rant against Manny Pacquiao was noise of the worst kind. It was filled with anger, insecurity and misinformation. And his "apology" was arguably worse than the rant itself, based on how disingenuous it was. And most recently, his troubles are of the domestic sort, involving an alleged stolen iPod and an attack on the mother of three of his children.

But I’m done talking about "the rant" and the "iPod beef" — they’re old, tired news.

Back to Don King

Although I think Don King has spoken some truth, forgive me if I am skeptical about his intentions. His recent statements appear to be a final, feeble attempt to convince Mayweather to hire him on as his promoter. King sees that "Pac-Money," and I am not talking about the kind that a politician would find in the nation’s capital. I am talking about the loot that a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight would surely bring to anyone involved in its negotiations.

Now only if Floyd Mayweather could see what Don King sees. Despite what King refers to as the “frustrations of the ghetto expressing themselves” in Mayweather’s recent actions, the man who calls himself "Money" has to know he’s possibly blowing a ton of it.

I sincerely hope that’s not the case — for the love of boxing.

@Jeff, too easy of a pick…hence no write-up. Most likely outcome — Mosley by UD but I wouldn’t be surprised if he stops “The Latin Snake.”

far from it. I watch the Dave Von Teppo broadcast. They had mora way ahead. Than Larry Merchants interview suggested that Mosley won the fight easily. It was a terrible fight. I think Mora won pretty decisivly. A draw it was not.

@Jeff I had no interest in calling that fight. Mora is an eye-sore to watch and Mosley is just done. More is like a worse, Latino version of Cory Spinks. If you want to sleep, John Ruiz, Cory Spinks and Sergio Mora are your guys. Speaking of which, I need to get some ZZZs Jeff. Holler @ ya later.

wake up amd smell the robbery ja, boring or otherwise mosley won the fight 8 rounds to 4. Not that it really mattered who won, but a”w” is a “w.”

@jabbo It does seem that Mosley won against the ALL DEFENSE Mora. That stated, a stinker no doubt. The fight recap reminded of Jermain Taylor’s “win” against the running Cory Spinks.

@jabbo. I’m not sure if you wantched the HBO feed. But the feed I was watching had Mora winning almost every round. Thats why I was so confused when they showed the post fight interview and Larry Merchant was claiming Mosley was robbed hands down. It made no sense to me.
