You are probably wondering why I am even writing about the WBA alphabelt heavyweight scrap between former cruiserweight kingpin David "Hayemaker" Haye (23-1, 21 KOs) and John "The Quiet Man" Ruiz (44-8-1, 30 KOs). I am writing about this because I would like Haye to rid the boxing world of the eye-sore that is John Ruiz’s fighting style.
Yes, it sounds cruel. But what’s crueler, me saying the same thing you all want to say (and probably have on boxing forums across the Web) or watching Ruiz challenge for a heavyweight belt for what seems like the one-hundredth time? Yes, I thought so.
This ain’t my typical boxing prediction post. It’s more like a Fight Insight public service announcement. The statement reads:
"On April 3, 2010, the boxing world seeks to rid itself of sleep-inducing elements that have tainted the game in general, but the heavyweight division in particular, since the retirement of Lennox Lewis. Sure, the Klitschkos’ clinical dominance has not inspired millions, but the personification of what has ailed the division through the 2000s has been one John Ruiz. David Haye, the responsibility is yours come April 3, to remove this sour taste from the sweet science’s taste buds once and for all."
To John Ruiz and his fans, you deserve much "props" – no fighter in recent memory has made as much money with as little talent as the Quiet Man. However, I also say to you, "Goodnight, and God bless after April 3." It’s been an ugly ride, and I look forward to it being parked for good.

I would say Ruiz has 0 chance of winning this fight. If he does win. The heavyweight division is in worse shape than we thought. I did not even know he was still fighting, and somehow he now has a title shot? Haymaker obviously needs a confidence booster from this matchup.

I pray that you are right Jeff.
Jeff says
Well that was everything we thought it would be. I like Hayemaker. He is exciting, what the heavyweight division needs. Is he the second coming of Lennox Lewis? Too early to say. But he has a bright future.

great call on the martinez fight. i made money on the over, on martinez. (the line got up to +165), and martinez by dec. gave some back on bute by dec and the over . guess even goossen can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. i keep going back and forth on the adamek fight. he was knocked down by chad dawson. the weigh in should be interesting.

@tom: Thanks for the props on the Martinez call. As I always say, when it doubt, bet on speed. I was shocked to see Bute starch Miranda like that, no doubt. The win wasn’t a shocker, just the fashion. True, Adamek was dropped by the ultra-skillful Chad Dawson (great last name by the way) but Arreola was dropped by Travis Walker, so call it a push there. 😉
